FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - PHOTO OPPORTUNITY FEB. 16 AT 10 AM
15-YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER NICHOLS & FAMILY TO APPEAR SAT., FEB. 16 at 10 AM TO OFFICALLY LAUNCH THE “HYDRO SHOCK”.
[NEWS RELEASE] TAMPA, FL. — February 15, 2008. Fifteen year old Lutz, Florida teenager Christopher Nichols spent $6 of his own money at Sweetbay for an admission ticket to come to the Fair last week. This Saturday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. the Sunlake High School student will receive a $500 cash prize by Florida State Fair officials during an awards ceremony naming their brand new roller coaster. The check presentation will take place next to the new roller coaster where the new name "HYDRO SHOCK" will be unveiled. Thanks to his creative thoughts, his winning name of “HYDRO SHOCK” won the "You Name It" Roller Coaster contest and will now grace the largest, portable non-looping roller coaster ever to debut at a state fair. “I was inspired by the color scheme as it soared through the air,” recalled Nichols. “I was with my Mom and ten year old brother, Stephen, on the ride during opening weekend.“ And what will he do with the prize money? "I have my permit and I’m saving up for a new car.” Chris Nichols was one of more than 400 other fair goers taking a chance to win $500 to name the roller coaster. Wade Shows, Inc. purchased “HYDRO SHOCK” from Morey’s Pier, New Jersey where it was previously located as a permanent ride. The ride is located on the northeast corner of the Fair’s Midway across from the Ford Amphitheatre. Ride enthusiasts were encouraged to enjoy the ride and then drop off their name entry at one of six guest relations booths located across the Fairgrounds. The Florida State Fair has the largest, independent midway in the southeast. The 2008 Florida State Fair will feature 91 rides and more than 200 games and attractions throughout the grounds.
All acts, concerts, scheduled times, exhibitors, prices, and other advertised events are subject to change and/or cancel without notice. Fair gate admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages six to 11; and free for children five and younger. NO RE-ENTRY is permitted without an admission ticket. Gates open daily at 9 a.m. and parking is free during the 12 days of the Fair. The Florida State Fairgrounds is located just seven miles east of downtown Tampa, with easy access via I-75, I-4, U.S. Highway 301, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, and Orient Road.
