POSITION: TECHNICIAN, MECHANIC


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education: High school graduate or equivalent and two years on the job training to include considerable knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance, diagnosis of mechanical problems and performing repairs, and safety practices and procedures.   Working knowledge of mechanical design and fabrication and electrical systems, including computerized induction/ignition systems.  Knowledge of diesel engines and hydraulics would be helpful.


Experience: Within the last 10 years, five years of experience and/or training in vehicle/construction equipment repair and maintenance shop or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Strong background in 2 stroke engines and 12 and 24 volt DC troubleshooting and repair.  

Skills: Skill in use of power and hand tools, use of diagnostic equipment, and acetylene and electric arc welding.  Ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays. In additions, ability to lift up to 60lbs, work extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, prepare and maintain records and reports, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public, follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers’ service specifications, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Under limited supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment to include:


  1. Diagnose, rebuild and repair vehicles and equipment. 


  1. Performs inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment. 


  1. Prepares and maintains records and reports, including job costs. 


  1. Prioritize repair jobs as they come in. 


  1. Keep inventory up to date.


  1. Compare prices on new parts and equipment. 


  1. Able to work flexible hours and overtime when necessary.


  1. Assign work and supervise mechanic assistant.


  1. Must furnish own tools.


  1. All other duties as assigned. 







POSITION: TECHNICIAN, MAINTENANCE 


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education: High school diploma or equivalent. 


Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years general and facilities maintenance. 


Skills:  Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Understand and 

follow oral and written directions.  Identify problems and implement solutions.  Work independently in the absence of supervision.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.


The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Perform a wide variety of general building maintenance repairs and services.


  1. Install light bulbs, doors, cabinets, paneling, flooring, bulletin boards, etc.


  1. Moves heavy objects as requested.


  1. Coordinates work projects with other maintenance trades.


  1. Uses a wide variety of tools and equipment to include airless sprayers, striping machines, sanders, etc.


  1. Maintains shop and equipment in a clean, orderly manner.


  1. Reports any maintenance concerns for building and equipment to the Maintenance Supervisor.


  1. Performs on-call emergency service as required.


  1. Prepares surfaces for plaster or cement work by taping joints on sheetrock, caulking and waterproofing walls and cracks in floors, etc. by using appropriate tools and equipment.


  1. May be called upon to assist/perform a variety of other maintenance tasks as may be required.
