Museum Day

What is it? Come discover rural Florida history through hands-on activities and pioneer chores. Tour our historic buildings such as our 1885 Carlton House, 1891 General Store, and 1898 Okahumpka Train Depot. Join in on a one-room schoolhouse lesson, try your skills at rolling hoops, or dip a $2 beeswax candle all while listening to the sounds of a bluegrass band on our main stage.

Smithsonian Magazine’s National Museum Day event has been paused for 2023, but in the spirit of that community event, Cracker Country will offer FREE admission for all visitors for this one-day special event!

Activities: Visitors can tour historic buildings and grounds that represent home life, commerce, and transportation as it was in many rural Florida communities just before the turn of the 20th century. See our model train display, meet a 19th-century Florida cow hunter, and help with everyday chores like churning butter and laundry with an old-fashioned washboard.

  • $2 Dip a beeswax candle — cash only

  • $2 Twist a rope — cash only

Shopping: There are lots of unique holiday gifts to be found at the General Store! The store features nostalgic and reproduction items, historical toys and games, books, candy, and many other unique gift items. The General Store accepts cash, Visa, Master Card, and personal checks with ID. Proceeds from sales in the General Store help support Cracker Country’s field trip programs.

Food: Inside Cracker Country: Sandwiches, chips, and drinks are available for purchase. Picnic tables are available for a picnic lunch.
